Viking Artifacts Returned to Norway
This year marks of the 100th anniversary of the end of Sweden’s union with Norway. As part of the commemoration ceremonies, on Tuesday a number of archeological artifacts from the Viking Age are being returned to Norway.
Swedish museums gathered the relics during the century-long union between the two countries. Today Norwegian museums are praising those efforts for saving items that were not valued in Norway at the time.
Now 2500 relics, ranging from Viking swords and axes to wooden bowls and tankards are being sent to Norwegian Museum of Cultural History and the University of Oslo’s Historical Museum and Viking Ship Museum.
