Indictment for excessive violence on deportee

Two employees of the Prison Service’s National Transport Unit have been indicted for excessive violence in connection with the deportation of a man from this country.

In its online edition the newspaper Aftonbladet reports that one witness says the violence was unprovoked, while another now speaks in favor of the accused.

The assault is alleged to have happened at a facility in Märsta, north of Stockholm, in April last year, when the two indicted men and a police officer were to take the 50 year old deportee to nearby Arlanda airport. The excessive violence is said to have included both blows and throwing the man into a wall.

One witness describes the incident as a brutal attack on a defenceless person. The lawyer of one of the accused says the police officer has withdrawn previous testimony that there was an unlawful use of force.
