Dozens Arrested in European Paedophile Crackdown
Police working across eight European countries arrested dozens of people this week in connection with a huge internet child pornography ring.
The total number of arrests was not available but French authorities said they were carried out simultaneously with counterparts in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Italy, Poland, Malta and the Netherlands.
Swedish police said the sweep was called Operation Callidus and resulted from an investigation launched last autumn.
A Swedish inspector said that child pornography on the internet is a big global problem saying that ”we have our share.” She added that no arrests had been made here, but the police had questioned people and searched homes around the country.
Some 15 individuals are under investigation and suspected of possession and transmission of child pornography.
