Mounted police ready for Norwegian "invasion"

A Swedish border town is preparing for the annual Easter incursion of partying Norwegians.

The alcohol shops have been closed and the police say they have plenty of jail cells to house any drunks taken into custody.

Every year on Skärtorsdag (Shrove Thursday) 10-15,000 Norwegians descend on the Swedish town of Strömstad, which lies around 100km from the Norwegian capital of Oslo.

“We’re prepared, with crowd control police, traffic police, mounted police, water police and the coastguard,” says police spokesperson Peter Adlersson to news agency TT.
