Up to 40 Swedes killed while fighting for IS

As many as 40 Swedish citizens have died while fighting for terrorist group IS in Syria and Iraq, new figures from Swedish intelligence service Säpo show.

Previously, Säpo had estimated that between 30 and 35 Swedes have died after joining IS in Syria and Iraq. The new, higher figure was established this week.

“This does not mean that these individuals have died recently, but that the deaths have been confirmed now. It is difficult and sometimes impossible to get confirmed figures,” Säpo press spokesman Fredrik Milder told news agency TT.
