Top NHL players join Sweden's Tre Kronor

Nashville ice hockey players Mattias Ekholm and Filip Forsberg will reinforce the Swedish national team Tre Kronor in the World Cup that starts Friday.

The duo has confirmed they will be joining the national team in the first match against the Czech Republic, Swedish Radio News reports.

Filip Forsberg, previously forward for Leksand, has been successful as a NHL-rookie this winter. Defender Mattias Ekholm helped Brynäs win the national elite series in 2012.

Two other Swedes - Alexander Steen of St Louis and Alexander Edler of Vancouver - will not make it to the world cup this year due to injuries.

Sweden plays the World Cup matches in Prague in the A group, which also contains the teams from the Czech Republic, Canada, Switzerland, Latvia, Germany, Austria and France.
