Bicycle sales on the up for third straight year

With more and more people choosing the bicycle as a mode of transport, sales are still on the rise, but quality standards need to be maintained and that's what lies behind the "bicycle's day", being celebrated today.

Behind the initiative is Fog, the Organisation for Swedish Bicycle Manufacturers & Wholesalers. The aim of the day is to promote the bicycle, the standard of bikes sold in Sweden and of course to promote cycling. Local events have been organised the country over by interest groups, like the one in Vällingby, in the west of Stockholm for example, are cyclists are encouraged to join in on a ride which has the aim of inspecting the cycle lanes in the area.

This goes hand in hand with the recent announcement that a new umbrella organisation consisting of a number of cycling advocacy organisations has been formed, called New Swedish Cycling. The goal of the newly built organisation is to turn Sweden into a cycling nation.
