Molotov cocktails and rocks thrown at police

Police fired warning shots when a patrol in the northwestern Stockholm of Tensta was attacked Friday night. Around 50 people took part in what the police are calling a riot.

“Our personnel fired warning shots when they were attacked with rocks,” Jens Mårtensson of the Stockholm Police tells the TT news agency. Besides stones, those involved also threw Molotov cocktails.

Representatives from several organizations, including those for Somali and Kurdish immigrants, were on the streets afterwards, trying to calm things down.

No one was injured in the incident, which occurred outside a subway station just before 10:00 PM, Eva Nilsson of the police information office tells Swedish Radio News. No arrests were made, and the situation was reported to be calm by midnight.

The police told Swedish Radio News that they had found a large number of Molotov cocktails in a garage, and the incident seems to have been planned, and not spontaneous.
