The rise and fall of Northland and the Pajala mine

Northland Resources was a iron ore mining company that had high hopes for its operation outside the town of Pajala in the far north, close to the Finnish border. But when ore prices nose-dived, the company went under.

Now it's facing other accusations of improper or illegal business practices, and major environmental damage. Despite that, the local community seems to hope the operation will resume. Radio Sweden spoke with Per Vallgårda, a reporter with Swedish Radio's local channel in Norrbotten County, to find out more.
