
Russia practiced invading Gotland
In March, 33,000 Russian soldiers partook in a military exercise around the Baltic Sea. The purpose of the exercises was to practice invading Gotland, Åland, and Bornholm, reports TT – all islands off the Swedish coast.
In a report titled, “The Coming Storm”, security expert and journalist Edward Lucas analyses the security situation Nordic and Baltic regions, and in Poland.
The report details several security exercises done by Russia in recent years, among others the above mentioned between the 21-25 of March of this year. The aim of the exercise was to practice invading several Swedish islands and parts of Northern Norway, writes Lucas, who works at the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA) in the US.
The Ministry for Defense has yet to comment the details of the report.
