Poseidon rescues 665 people on the Mediterranean

Poseidon, the Swedish coast guard's contribution to the EU border security operation, Triton, rescued 665 people on the Mediterranean Sea early this week, reports news agency TT.

On Wednesday, they will be taken to Italy.

353 people were rescued from a heavily loaded, open wooden boat off the coast of Malta on Monday. When the migrants were taken aboard the Poseidon, it met with a boat from Doctors Without Borders, and took aboard another 312 people.

Thus far, the Swedish coast guard has rescued 3,539 people through Triton.
