Frölunda HC beat out Skellefteå AIK in the final match 5-to-3, nearly sweeping their northern opponents in the seven-game series.
In Sunday's match, Frölunda started strong by scoring three goals in the first period and then two more in the second period. Skellefteå was able to answer back with three goals of its own in the second and third period but never gained the momentum to overturn Frölunda's early lead.
During the post-game celebrations, captain Joel Lundqvist told Swedish Radio that 2016 was the year for his team.
"It felt like it was time," Lundqvist said. "We've made strides every year and this year has been fantastic. We knew immediately that we had something going on."
Frölunda has won the national championship title four times, in 1965, 2003, 2005 and 2016.
