Prime Minister Stefan Löfven has said he would not rule out sending in the army to fight gang violence in Swedish suburbs, a suggestion that has raised criticism from defence experts.

Oscar Jonsson, a PhD candidate in War Studies at King's College, London and at the Swedish Defence University says that is “a really bad idea”.

Jonsson told Radio Sweden that military personnel “do not have the education or the legal support to conduct operations here, at home. Also, it would drain the army’s budget and the soldiers’ morale,” Jonsson said.
