Women are for the first time in the majority among problem gamblers in Sweden, according to new statistics from the public health authority.

Today, 45,000 people in Sweden have such a serious gambling habit that it can be be classified as an addiction, and women make up 63 percent, a steep rise from 18 percent in 2015.

Anders Håkansson, a professor of ethics and medicine at Lund University who specialises in gambling addiction, tells Radio Sweden that the growth of online casinos is behind the rise in female addiction.
