Consumers warned about fake products

Sweden's economic slowdown is partly caused by counterfeit products being sold across the country.

According to the latest report by the Swedish Patent and Registration Office, pirated products generated 28 billion SEK with 18.3 billion kronor generated through imports.

Sara Sparring, lawyer and chairperson of the Swedish Anti-Counterfeiting Group says "fifty percent (of consumers) are thinking that they have bought genuine products but also there are people who are aware and say I know this is fake but I'll buy it anyway. But they don't know that it is quite often organised crime behind this."

One of the major concerns of counterfeiting are food and pharmaceutical products, which could be dangerous to our health. Sara Sparring advises people to avoid buying any fake products not only to avoid potential injuries but also to avoid money being filtered to criminal organisations.
