Change direction or lose more voters, trade union warns Swedish government

The leaders of Sweden's largest trade union confederation LO have called for the minority government to pursue more traditional social democratic policies, even if it risks a fracture with the centre-right parties who support them in parliament.

In an opinion piece published in Dagens Nyheter, LO warns the Social Democrats – a party they have deep ties with – not to take their support for granted, and lists key demands they expect from the government.

LO president Karl-Petter Thorwaldsson told Radio Sweden that even if the government has a delicate balancing act in the Riksdag, a change in direction is necessary to lure back voters from the Sweden Democrats.
