Syrians want Migration Agency to change alien passport rules

2:27 min

Almost 700 Syrians holding residency permits in Sweden have signed a petition demanding rules be changed to make it easier for them to get an alien passport.

The majority of Syrian refugees in Sweden have been issued what's called temporary protection lasting for 13 months at a time.

This means they either have to apply for a passport from the Syrian embassy or go to Swedish authorities for a so-called alien’s passport, which is a travel document for residents here that do not have Swedish citizenship.

The signatories say they don't want to work with the authorities in war-torn Syria or give them their money and hope new rules can make it easier for them to get an alien passport.
