Turkish authorities question Jimmie Åkesson while leaving Istanbul

Turkish officials questioned the leader of the Sweden Democrats Jimmie Åkesson Friday after he visited the Greek border to tell migrants stuck there that Sweden was full, the party says.

Åkesson had travelled to the border to discourage migrants from coming to Sweden. He was questioned at Istanbul airport on leaving the country, the party's press office says. They had originally confirmed media reports that he had been arrested in the country, but then later said he had only been questioned.

It called Turkey a "rogue state" that shouldn't have any influence on European migration policy.

Last week, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said migrants in his country would no longer be stopped from trying to enter Greece, and thus the European Union.
