Sweden's former state epidemiologist: The end results of Covid-19 in Europe will be similar

Sweden has opted for relatively liberal policies to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

One former state epidemiologist, Professor Johan Giesecke has come out of retirement to act as a consultant to Anders Tegnell and his team at the Public Health Agency which advises the government.

In an interview with Radio Sweden, Johan Giesecke is forthright in his defence of Sweden's Covid-19 strategy, but admits there have been failings.

You can't keep a lockdown forever, and the problem with it is that you have to open it up and that's happening as we speak. Countries are more and more approaching the Swedish policy,"
