'It could provide an early warning of an outbreak': researchers launch covid symptom tracking app in Sweden

Researchers at Lund University have launched a Swedish version of a new app that they hope could provide a form of early warning for health authorities about the spread of the coronavirus.

Data from the British version of the app has been used by health authorities in the UK.

Asked about its usefulness in Sweden by Swedish Television on Wednesday, state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell was sceptical.

But Lund University Genetic and Molecular Epidemiology Professor Paul Franks told Radio Sweden he hopes the research project could be useful for helping to focus Swedish testing resources in a similar way to the UK.
