Worries grow over undetected cancer cases as pandemic pauses screenings

Sweden is experiencing a drop-off in cancer screenings and referrals which could delay diagnoses and treatments for patients.

Swedish Radio News reports testing for cervical cancer is down with half of the nation's 21 regions either reducing or pausing screening altogether.

Meanwhile Swedish Television says there has been a 50 percent drop in referrals by doctors of people with suspected lung cancer.

Screening is delayed right now because patients are either too worried about the coronavirus to seek help at hospitals or because health care workers are too busy or sick to carry out the tests.
