Global greenhouse gas emissions are set to drop nearly 8 percent this year but more needs to be done to make a lasting dent on climate change.

Social distancing and travel restrictions during the coronavirus pandemic have kept planes grounded and commuters at home. And that's driving the fall.

But environment researchers say addressing climate change will require deep-rooted and steadfast changes in how most of the world lives, works and consumes. And the crisis from Covid-19 might offer that chance to change course.
