As borders closed, pandemic left some stranded in Sweden

At the start of the pandemic, thousands of Swedes were stuck overseas as air traffic shut down and borders closed. But the same fate has also struck international visitors here in Sweden.

It is difficult to know exactly how many are stranded here since the Migration Agency doesn't have any specific statistics on this.

But it has seen a sharp increase in recent months in applications for visa extensions or applications for visitor's permits which let people extend their visit to the country for more than 90 days.
