No shortage of seasonal workers in farming industry

1:54 min

Sweden's farms and forestry industry have not suffered a feared labour shortage due to the coronavirus because workers from other countries came to Sweden after restrictions were lifted for seasonal agricultural workers, Swedish Radio News reports.

Earlier there had been fears that Sweden's agriculture industry might suffer because of travel restrictions introduced in March this year. The labour shortage did not materialise; but it was not unemployed Swedes who took up the work, but the fact that migration for work has continued, including labour from outside the EU, after exemptions were granted by the Swedish government and the EU. They decided that seasonal agricultural workers would be excluded from the travel bans.
