
Öresund Bridge turns 20 with border partly closed
The Öresund Bridge between Sweden and Denmark was opened with great fanfare 20 years ago today.
The grand visions of growth and prosperity and a united Nordic region have in later years been overshadowed by border checks and closures, with fewer people commuting across the strait, especially in 2020 with closed borders due to the coronavirus.
Radio Sweden looks back to the day when the bridge was opened and spoke to Johan Wessman, of the independent think tank Øresundsinstituttet about the visions and how they have been affected by the political situation in the later years.
