Stockholm regional leader asks for tax redistribution hike to be paused

Regional politicians in Stockholm want to pause an increase in payments that redistributes taxes from richer to poorer regions in Sweden, arguing that the corona pandemic has hit the Swedish capital region hard.

Iréne Svenonius, head of Stockholm's public healthcare authority told Swedish Radio that the cost of the redistribution system is due to increase significantly for the region in the coming years. Stockholm is the only net contributor to the system at present.
