Sweden accepts EU grants in corona budget

The leaders of the EU are in an exhausting marathon negotiation to decide on trillions of euro in spending, and on Sunday night Sweden seemed to relax its hard stance against giving grants rather than loans to countries hit by corona.

Sweden will now accept that 375 billion euros can be distributed as grants, not loans, to countries in places like southern Europe hit by the corona pandemic, Swedish Radio News reports.

Sweden's Social Democrat-Green government, backed by other parties in parliament, have been against an expanding of EU power to raise and spend money.

The negotiations are set to continue at 4pm on Monday.
