'Almost impossible' to keep distance: handling crowds in tourism hotspots

Municipalities throughout Sweden this summer have needed to find new ways to get people to keep their distance. That's especially true for Borgholm, a popular destination for summer tourists.

The local council on the island of Öland in the Baltic Sea has an website where people can anonymously report overcrowding and has even set out security guards to patrol the city streets of Borgholm and its nearby beaches.

Linda Hedlund, who works with security and emergency preparedness at Borgholm municipality, say the security guards have been a big success and the council is extending their work for a third week.

Even so, there are limits to what officials there can do to ensure summer guests keep their distance from one another.
