Blekinge court tables tainted water case after new evidence is submitted

1:27 min

A Blekinge District Court postponed a lawsuit against a municipal water company on its first day when the defendant submitted new evidence to the court.

The lawsuit involves some 160 households in Ronneby municipality whose water was contaminated for years by PFAS chemicals.

Residents are suing water company Miljöteknik for damages, saying the high PFAS levels in their water put them at a higher risk for illnesses like cancer, thyroid disease and liver damage.

Miljöteknik doesn't deny the PFAS chemicals ended up in the water supply, but argues that a heightened risk for a disease isn't grounds for a lawsuit.
