Stockholm police deny permit for planned Koran burnings

Police have denied a request for a permit to hold a demonstration where Danish far-right group Stram Kurs planned to burn the Koran at five Stockholm locations over the weekend. A permit request for a counter demonstration has also been rejected.

Stockholm Police deputy chief Carolina Paasikivi explained that public order and safety was deemed to be sufficiently at risk to deny the demonstration permits.

In August, Stram Kurs supporters burned the Koran in Malmö, despite also being rejected a permit for a demonstration there, and violent clashes followed.
