Swedish hospital ready to help with second wave in Europe

1:42 min

An advanced intensive care unit in Sweden is ready to fly in patients from other parts of Europe, with its unique air transport.

The ECMO centre in Stockholm's Karolinska Hospital carries out a form of intensive care involving using machines to do the work of oxygenating blood, instead of a patient's heart and lungs. This can help someone survive when regular intensive care would not be enough.

And not only does the Karolinska hospital have space, but it is also unique in Europe in having its own jet plane transport that can carry out the advanced form of heart and lung care in-flight.
