Sweden cautiously positive to EU refugee proposal

Sweden's minister for migration is cautiously positive about the proposed new EU asylum system and says to Sweden Radio News it would mean fewer refugees coming to Sweden.

The main opposition party also supports the strengthening of the EU border and the lack of compulsion to accept people with grounds for asylum.

The EU Commission's proposal now has to be debated, modified and agreed by the 27 member states, who have been deadlocked for years over this issue; it also has to be approved by the EU parliament, all within a short timetable.
