Sweden qualify for UEFA Women's Championship but pay gap leaves bittersweet taste

Sweden's women qualified for the UEFA Women's Championship on Tuesday evening with a 2-0 home win over Iceland at Gamla Ullevi in Gothenburg.

The result ensures Sweden win their qualifying group and become the sixth team to secure their place at the tournament in England, but talisman Kosovare Asllani was less than satisfied following the full-time whistle.

While Sweden's men received a near 100 million kronor bonus from UEFA for their qualification for UEFA Euro 2020, the women will receive no such bonus of any kind for Tuesday's qualification. Asllani said it is time for the European football authority to "step up".
