Parties threaten to shoot down government's proposed gun law

EU countries have agreed to bring in new gun laws demanding owners register and label their weapons; but opposition against the rules is so strong in Sweden that a government proposal may fail to get voted through parliament, Swedish Radio News can reveal.

The Center party says the proposed law is missing the target and that it is aiming at law abiding gun owners instead of addressing the real problem of illegal guns.

The Sweden Democrats and Left Party also say they will vote against. Other opposition parties are equally skeptical.

The government is in in a minority and needs the votes of supporters like the Center to get its proposals.
