A hybrid version of the 31st Stockholm International Film Festival begins today with 30 of the 75 films on show to only be available online.

Cinemas showing festival films will be limited in capacity to fifty people, in line with recommendations from the Public Health Agency.

While the film programme is reduced by half compared to a normal year, festival director, Git Scheynius, tells Radio Sweden that it's important to continue during the corona pandemic.

"I think it's very important that cultural life continues, to give people some rest and thoughts", she says.

Martin Scorsese has been awarded the Stockholm Film Festival's Lifetime Achievement Award and will take part in an online discussion of his work on Friday, followed by the screening of his famous film Taxi Driver.
