Hygiene routines among staff working in homes for the elderly were found to be lacking during on-the-spot checks in March, but a repeat survey in October showed clear improvement, Swedish Radio P4 Jönköping reports, after surveying municipalities in Östergötland, Kronoberg, Kalmar and Jönköping.
Söderköping municipality had significant problems in the spring, but checks now show 95 percent compliance.
"Our staff thought they were doing what they were supposed to, but they weren't," says Sara Olofsson, who runs one home for the elderly in Söderköping.
