Agency: Work to prevent FGM should improve

  • A new investigation from the National Board of Health and Welfare reveals that health care providers and people who work with student health need to know more about the issue of female genital mutilation or FGM.

  • About half of the health care providers that the agency surveyed reported that they didn't have any training about FGM. And only 28 percent of school nurses and 45 percent of staff at youth clinics work preventatively against it.

  • Sharareh Akhavan, who was in charge of the report, told Radio Sweden: "The target group needs to know that there is health care for them."
