Doctor: Save PCR tests for where they're most needed

  • The number of people taking a PCR test for Covid-19 in Sweden rose by about 20% from the last week of December to the first week January.

  • The most recent weekly figures indicate that more than 400,000 PCR tests were carried out, and about a third of those results were positive, and many people report difficulties in even booking a test.

  • "The capacity to test everyone is impossible," says Johan Styrud, a consultant at Danderyd Hospital and the chair of the association of Stockholm doctors, given that so many people have Covid-19 now. He feels that under the current circumstances, tests should only be reserved for certain groups.
