Expert: environment law not reason for Cementa shutdown

  • Cementa, who is Sweden's largest provider of cement, will have to cease their extraction of limestone in Gotland starting from November first, after a ruling from the Land and Environment high court.
  • According to the Swedish Land and Environment high court, Cementa's analysis of how the limestone quarries will affect the areas ground water was insufficient.
  • "Cementa was denied because they haven't provided the court enough evidence to base a ruling on," says Jonas Ebbesson, professor of environmental law.
