Grid operator earning billions from differences in electricity prices

  • National power grid operator, Svenska kraftnät, has made more than 11 billion kronor this year by transferring electricity between the north and the south of the country. A normal year, the state-owned enterprise earns between one and two billion, Swedish Radio reports.

  • Profits have grown along with the widening gap in electricity prices betwen different parts of Sweden.

  • Industry organisation Swedenergy tells Swedish Radio News some of the profit should be used to even out price differences.
