Investigation board: Doesn't look like damage caused by an explosion

  • Sweden's Accident Investigation Board says it doesn't think the damage to the sunken ferry Estonia revealed by a new film of the hull was caused by an explosion.
  • The film shows blackened metal bent outwards from the hull, but the deputy director general of the board, Jonas Bäckstrand, says that more analyses are needed.
  • "The international investigation in the 1990's took samples to see if they could find any traces of explosives, and none were found", he says.
