  • The latest forecast from the Public Employment Service has some 434,000 people unemployed this year, a rate of 8.3 percent.

  • In December 2020, the agency was predicting a rate of 9.1 percent for this year.

  • But, almost 190,000 individuals have been out of work for a year or more, classifying them as long-term unemployed. And that figure could grow to more than 200,000 by the end of this year.
