WORK PERMITS

New work permit rules come into force today

  • As Radio Sweden has previously reported, today is the day new work permit rules come in force. Non-EU citizens will now need a monthly salary of at least SEK 27,360 to get a work permit in Sweden.

  • Reaction from unions and employers is mixed. The blue-collar Swedish Trade Union Confederation, LO, welcomes the new rules, saying they'll prevent foreign workers from coming and competing against Swedes for jobs.

  • But the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise says companies already have a very tough time finding employees in Sweden.
