  • An attempt to give researchers an exception to the new rule that one needs an 18-month long contract to get permanent residency in Sweden has been voted down in the Swedish parliament's social insurance committee.
  • The Center party, the Liberals and the Left party voted in favour of issuing exemptions, but were in the minority in the committee.
  • The proposal was made after representatives for universities and research students in Sweden protested against the new rules.
