Split shifts still the norm for most municipal health and care workers

  • A survey by Swedish Radio found 70 percent of local municipalities that responded use the split shift system, where employees work two different time slots during a day with several hours of unpaid time in between.

  • 153 municipalities that answered said they have staff in health and care jobs that work split shifts.

  • But about two thirds of municipalities state there has been a decision to, or a drive toward, abolishing or reducing the number of split shifts.
