Swedish government presents details of electricity rebate proposal

  • The government today presented more details of its proposed temporary scheme to help the most affected households cope with high electricity bills this winter.

  • Finance Minister Mikael Damberg said that the support scheme is intended to function as "a staircase" where the level of the compensation will increase depending on the size of a household's electricity bill.

  • The opposition Moderates are critical, and have proposed to scrap the energy tax temporarily instead.
