Swedish military: Why we cannot shoot down drones

  • While Sweden's Security Police continues its investigations into who was behind the recent drone flights over nuclear power plants and other key sites of strategic importance, questions have turned towards what can be done about preventing such drone incursions.

  • Swedish Radio News has spoken to the Armed Forces, whose official in charge of protection against drones says they can only respond when a drone has flown over a building or area belonging to the military.

  • "The Armed Forces doesn't have a mandate to act when it concerns other protected sites but we can respond to requests for help from the national police," Lieutenant Colonel Ulf Lepp says.
