Swedish police: 1200 gang members are under 18
Of the more than 8,200 people that the police counted as being members of criminal gangs at the end of last year, almost 15 percent were under the age of 18, Swedish Radio News reports.
The highest proportion of under-age gang members are in the police region Mitt, which covers the central counties of Gävleborg, Uppsala and Västmanland.
"We can see that quite complex and advanced criminality goes down quite far in the age groups", says Martin Wallin, who leads the police's work against serious organised crime in the area of Sollentuna in Stockholm.
