World-famous children's author Gunilla Bergström dead

  • Gunilla Bergström, the author illustrator of the much loved Alfons Åberg books, has died, her publisher announced today.
  • The 79-year-old's books about Alfie Atkins, as he is called in English, have been translated into 30 languages and have been made into TV programmes, films and theatre productions. 
  • The books about the child who lives with his father are the second most requested children's books in Swedish libraries, after Pippi Longstocking.
