Jonas Kaufmann is the guest in this episode of Spotlight and this is an archive special, recorded in 2013. He talks to Kerstin Berggren about singing Wagner and Verdi, how he did a rather special audition for the legendary Giorgio Strehler in Milan and why he likes to sing lieder.
From early childhood music was an important element in his life and his grandfather, who lived in the same house in Munich, played the piano and sang Wagner all the time.
Now Jonas Kaufmann is one of the world's leading opera tenors with many memorable performances. In Spotlight he talks about some of them, Don Carlo at The Royal Opera House in London and Parsifal at The Met in New York.
When he started to sing Wagner some critics said: It sounds too beautiful...
